I write romcoms, so how did I end up planning dastardly deeds as I toured the Pilbara? Well, it started with a woman named Damascus Rose. She was everything I've always wanted to be; a feminist, a fighter for women's rights, and a free spirit all rolled into one. Then I placed her in a world where men rule and women keep house and raise kids aka a mining town. If I tell you how Rose escaped her fate I'd spoil the story. But needless to say, Karin Baxter, our heroine, is a modern day freedom fighter. She takes bad guys down. And she seeks justice for those that can't claim it for themselves. And she exposes greed, power and corruption to the light of day. I like her, and I hope you do too.
